THE ROLE
We’re looking for a data analyst or data scientist with some hands-on experience to join our growing data team at Stonehaven. You might come from a more analytical or technical background, we’re open to either, but you’ll need to be curious, adaptable, and keen to develop skills across both streams.
You’ll help us create visual outputs, shape insight-led stories, and contribute to the development of models used in polling, policy and public opinion work. This is a great role for someone early in their career who wants to learn quickly and apply their skills to real-world political, economic and societal challenges.
You will be responsible for :
- Building clear and engaging data visualisations for internal and client-facing use
- Interpreting survey and polling data to support narratives that influence strategy and decision-making
- Supporting the development and implementation of statistical and predictive models (where appropriate)
- Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines – from strategy and policy to communications – to ensure data insight is central to our work
- Taking initiative in developing your skills and shaping your role across both analysis and modelling, with mentorship from experienced data leads
- Helping improve internal data tools, processes, and outputs as our capability grows
The Ideal Candidate
- Some hands-on experience in either data analysis or data science (this may include a year or two in a relevant role, internships, or applied projects)
- Comfortable using Python for analysis and working with data libraries (e.g., pandas)
- Familiarity with or interest in survey/polling data
- Experience creating visualisations or dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, etc.
- A practical understanding of data cleaning, manipulation, and summarisation
- Experience or interest in learning to build dashboards that help bring our in-house data to life and make it more accessible to wider audiences
- An interest in developing skills across both data storytelling and model development
- Knowledge of basic statistical concepts (e.g., distributions, sampling, inference)
Person Profile
- An effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team.
- An ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Respectful and works with integrity.
- Intellectually curious about current affairs and an interest in keeping abreast of the latest developments in politics, business, and global trends.
- Comfortable with change and excited to work with your team to problem solve, focusing on solutions
- An ability to build client relationships and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
