Consultant - Public Affairs
THE ROLE
At Stonehaven, we help our clients achieve real outcomes - building strategies that shape debates, influence decision-makers, and deliver change that matters.
We are looking for a bright and ambitious public affairs consultant to join our growing London team. You will bring a strong understanding of Westminster and Whitehall, proven experience advising clients on UK politics, and excellent client-handling and project management skills.
As a consultant, you will be a trusted member of integrated, multidisciplinary teams - helping to design and deliver campaigns that achieve measurable impact. You will contribute political insight, drive stakeholder engagement, and support coalition building that helps clients navigate complexity and influence outcomes.
Reporting to a senior consultant, you will take ownership of research and execution on accounts, build trusted relationships with clients, and often lead delivery calls. You’ll also play a role in expanding Stonehaven’s networks - across politics, business, and wider stakeholders.
We welcome candidates with backgrounds in politics, agency, or in-house roles who are eager to accelerate their career in a fast-paced consultancy, working alongside experts across data, insight, strategy, policy, sustainability, and communications.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Support the day-to-day management of client accounts, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and campaigns.
- Provide clear political and policy insights that help clients anticipate challenges and seize opportunities.
- Draft high-quality materials - from strategy papers to client presentations - with precision and attention to detail.
- Coordinate delivery across multiple workstreams, keeping projects on track and aligned to client objectives.
- Collaborate with colleagues across our data & insights, policy, sustainability, and international teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and networks in politics, business, and civil society.
- Contribute to new business efforts by developing ideas, supporting pitches, and spotting opportunities for growth.
- Stay ahead of political, regulatory, and business trends, sharing insights with colleagues and clients.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 3–5 years’ experience in a political or public affairs role - such as Parliament, devolved administrations, political campaigns, agency, or in-house.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience engaging directly with clients, with the confidence to contribute to meetings and build lasting relationships.
- A track record of delivering research and analysis that informs strategy and drives impact.
- A strong network across politics and an understanding of how campaigns are built and delivered.
- Knowledge of issues management and an ability to think strategically under pressure.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities for clients and for the consultancy.
ABOUT YOU
- Intellectually curious with a genuine interest in politics, policy, business, sustainability, and media.
- A confident communicator, able to distil complex issues into clear and actionable advice.
- Collaborative and collegiate, thriving in a team environment.
- Entrepreneurial in outlook, excited by the challenge of building client relationships and growing accounts.
- Adaptable, resilient, and solutions-focused, even when under pressure.
- Respectful and professional, with integrity at the core of how you work.
